Best School Carnival

Every kid loves to go to a school carnival.  They are loads of fun for the little ones.  They get to hang out with their friends and run around their schoolyard while playing games, winning prizes, and riding rides.  There really could be nothing better.

If you are a carnival organizer you have many different things on your plate that you must handle and coordinate.  Below are a list of things that you will need to coordinate to have a successful school carnival.

1.  Rides:  No school carnival is complete without some sort of rides for the kids.  Most schools cannot afford to do hard rides like roller coasters or merry-go-rounds.  A great idea is to have inflatables at the carnival that the kids can bounce on, race across, or slide down.  These rides are easy to set up, and there are probably a few companies in your city or town that do them.  Kids will absolutely love the inflatables at their carnival.

2.  Food:  You need to be sure to have plenty of food at your carnival for the kids and especially the parents.  One unique thing you may want to have is a hot dog vendor.  This is a neat idea because hot dog vendors are a nastolgic thing for a lot of folks.  You may also want to consider selling concessions at your carnival to bring in extra revenue.  You can offer popcorn, cotton candy, or snow cone machines at your carnival.  These items are always popular at carnivals and will be sure to draw in large crowds and raise money at your event.  Just be sure that you rent a commercial-grade unit when you rent a concession machine, as you want machines that will really crank out the food volume.

3.  Music:  It is always a great idea to have music going at your carnival.  This is a good idea because it adds the extra level of depth and festiveness to your event.  It really livens up the mood and is so easy to pull off.  All you really need to do is rent a speaker system and have your ipod or mp3 player playing over the speakers.

4.  Volunteers:  Be sure to overstaff your event with as many volunteers as you possibly can.  This is very important because many volunteers will not show up for their commitment!  This happens time and time again, so be prepared with more volunteers than what you need.  This will be key to success because you cannot do everything yourself.  Try getting volunteers from the local high school or the parents of students.

5.  Prizes:  Door prizes and raffles are great.  If you give out tickets and have a raffle at the end of the event, it will often incentivize people to stay through the whole event.  This seems like a simple concept, but it is important, as you want people to stick around as long as possible.

These five tips are very simple.  We will continue to reveal more party planning and carnival planning tips in future blogs.  Stay tuned!
